At the core of Pilates are 8 fundamental principles.
CONCENTRATION: By fully focusing in the moment, the intent of the moments becomes more powerful and therefore more effective.
BREATING: Wen we naturally breath our abdomens are soft and move in and out. Pilates utilizes a breathing technique called lateral breathing.
CENTRING: When you centre, your body and your power work in unison equal strength between your abdominal muscles and your back.
CONTROL: Pilates moves are slow and continuous, reducing the risk of injury.
PRECISION: Pilates is precise and within this exactness, concentration is high, intent is well focused and the individual can develop and awareness of space and time.
MOVEMENT: The movement of Pilates are slow, controlled and graceful. They flow with no beginning and the end.
ISOLATION: The Pilates wen we talk of isolation we acknowledge all of our muscles in order for us to understand the strengths and weaknesses in each area, allowing us to develop muscles in a balance way, working in unison.
ROUTINE: Pilates needs to be performed along side your usual fitness programme. It will only work if you practise.
Best wishes to all my English and American friends...
